The Christmas Tree Ship is remembered as one of the Great Lakes most "storied shipwrecks". Occuring in 1912. For years prior "Captain Santa" Captain Herman Schuenemann made a yearly Voyage from Michigans Upper Peninsula to Chicago with a load of freshly cut Christmas Trees. Despite the crews best efforts during the 1912 journey, the ship was unable to withstand the gales of the Great Lakes and went down off the coast of Two Rivers, Wisconsin.
